Calvary Worship Schedule

Calvary offers two one hour worship services every Sunday:

9:00 am Service: In person Worship and Holy Communion

11:00 am Service: In person and Online Worship via Youtube. With Holy Communion the first Sunday of the month.

The flow, hymns, and liturgy at Calvary follow a traditional United Methodist service with some modern flair. The goal is to offer a accessible and spiritually fulfilling service. We are a teaching church so please ask question if there is a part of worship you want to know more about.

What is Worship Like? All our welcome to join us for service whether you are new and looking to explore faith or have been a longtime member of a church. The atmosphere at Calvary is warm and friendly. Often we host coffee hours after service as a chance to meet new people for visiters and members. We are glad you’ve chosen to worship with us!

Is there a certain way to dress? We want you to feel comfortable. Our congregation spans the gambit from casual to formal on any given Sunday.

Where can I park? Calvary has a small parking lot attached to the church and street parking on both sides of the street on Sunday. Parking is also available next door at Melwood Resources (750 23rd St S, Arlington, VA 22202). Crystal City Metro is nearby and there is also a bike rack and nearby bus stop.

Nursery and Childcare.   We are pleased to offer both a nursery and children’s Sunday school during worship. Parents may drop off their child at the entrance to the children’s ministry area (located by the staircase in our parking lot).  Children are welcome to join for the full worship service but are also able to leave worship, with the Family Ministry Director, to engage in worship activities more geared towards children following the Children’s Moment.  Children are picked up at the preschool building (Calvary Children’s School) entrance after worship. The entrance is located by the staircase in our parking lot.

Children and Youth Worship and Activities

Calvary offers meaningful activities for Children and Youth at Calvary every Sunday. This includes opportunities to volunteer, an active youth group, and Sunday school. To learn more, please contact our Family Ministries Director, Beth Posey, at familyministries@calmeth.org

A wide array of additional resources are available for our children and youth.  To view these resources click here.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is one of the main sacraments of the Methodist Church. We are currently  serving Communion every Sunday during the 9 a.m. worship and the first Sunday of the month at both the 9 a.m. and the 11 a.m. service.  After the pastor officiates the sacrament, we offer multiple ways to receive the elements to accommodate different levels of comfort. You can learn more about Holy Communion via this video:

We Welcome you

What to Expect During Worship

Our Vision is to model God’s love in a way to that is accessible to all and a genuine expression of our worship! Calvary’s worship opportunities, ministry opportunities, programs, and accessibility serves to make this vision a reality. We welcome those seeking God’s comfort, guidance, and healing. Whether you grew up in the Methodist tradition or you are brand new to faith.

No Pressure

First, we promise you won’t be embarrassed or pressured to give money or to join the church, so relax and focus on experiencing worship.

Singing our Praise

We’ll be singing songs to express our love for God. The words are found in our bulletins each Sunday. All types of singers are welcome.

Sacramental Worship

Calvary practices the Christian sacraments of baptism and communion. During service we’ll be sure to explain what they mean so you won’t feel left out. Holy Communion is open to all people, you need not be a member of any church to participate.

The Message

Our pastor will share a relevant message (click here to hear recent sermons), to enable you to discover new truths that help you see life from God’s point of view. We encourage you to use your Bible (either print or via a phone app) to follow along.

Hour Services

We’ll be done in about one hour so you’ll be ready to go pick up your little ones, socialize at our after service Coffee Hour, meet new friends for lunch, or go about your day.

Be Comfortable

You’ll see all sorts of attire at our services. Many people wear “business casual,” however a number of others will wear jeans. We invite you to come dressed comfortably for you.

Worship Experiences for Children

There is a special children’s message at the 11 a.m. service.  Children are invited to stay seated with their family during this message and are invited to join the Children’s Sunday School, afterwards. Children may be taken to the children’s ministry area (located near the black stairs off the parking lot) for the 9am service for fun and games at our Sunday School.
